Rate this book
When a search for Kate's missing father leads her to a hidden room beneath her house, she finds a machine that allows her to be anyone, anywhere in time. She leaves her life as a high school running from the death of her mother when Kate was young, the teasing of classmates about her birth defect, and even the difficulty of choosing where her life will go. Kate quickly discovers, however, that avoiding her problems will not make them go away. Visiting Victorian England reveals the gossip in her own life. A trip to the Old West opens her eyes to a friend in trouble. And even seeing her own future makes her present uncertain. And if those matters were not complicated enough, she must find the mysterious person who appears at every intersection, blocking her from changing anything. If she fails to make sense of everything that's happening, she runs the risk of becoming completely lost in her own mind. Through the Windows in Time integrates life experiences into realistic situations. Not only does Kate have the difficulties of dealing with the death of her mother and a birth defect that left her without her right arm, but she also must handle many true-to-life teen problems. Readers follow Kate as she confronts her bullying nemesis Sasha -- in both positive and negative ways. They learn how to recognize abuse in peers as Kate finds strange bruises on her friend Deidre. They discover that people are more than they appear as Kate learns Marshall, the jock of the class, has a desire to be an artist. Through the Windows in Time provides positive teaching in an entertaining format to help young adults through life.
