Read this on a plane if you can. It hits hard. I loved all of it. Every story. And it was gloriously disgusting.

Every single fear you ever felt about travelling in the air is in this book. As well as some new ones that are going to haunt me whenever I look at a plane.
I love that this book was conceived through spite and a shared dread of air travel.

My favourite stories were An Incident in Concourse C and Gate 67-C Montreal YUL to London LHR. The two stories that made me go “wtf did I just read?!” were Bile High Club (especially as someone who has a fear of vomit) and Ready To Board Now.

"When humans discovered flight, they found the skies were already occupied."

2.5 rounded down to a 2, but I struggled with whether or not to round it up to a 3.

The problem with rating and reviewing anthologies is that the stories can be of such vastly different calibres, and Your Flight Has Been Cancelled is no exception. Some stories in this collection were fantastic, while others were okay, and others were just a painful slog to get through that I wound up skimming them at best.

My favourites from Your Flight Has Been Cancelled: "Hardcase" by Bridget D. Brave, "An Incident in Concourse C" by Elizabeth Broadbent, "Gate 67-C Montreal YUL to London LHR" by Caitlin Marceau, "S U C K" by Joshua Hull, "For Your Safety & Comfort" by Brittni Brinnn, and "Ready to Board Now" by Iseult Murphy. These stories in particular were not only well-written, but more importantly, they were unique. For instance, "S U C K" and "For Your Safety & Comfort" were written from interesting and different character perspectives, which I found I really needed halfway through this anthology! Too many of the stories in Your Flight Has Been Cancelled were just the exact same: I'm in an airport, oh that's weird my gate doesn't seem to exist, now I'm in some scary hell dimension of the airport I can't escape, uh oh, I'm dead. That exact formula appears in at least five or six different stories in this anthology, and it just gets so dull and overdone.

I also know that this is a indie-published book (Little Ghosts ily) so I'm cutting it a little bit of slack, but this anthology really needed better editing. Not in terms of collection or typesetting or anything, but just in terms of grammar and spelling checks. There are different versions of the same word used in the same story (ie. 'color' and 'colour'), there are words stuck together without a space between them, there are blatant misspellings, and this whole anthology would've benefitted from a more careful eye in the editing department. Again, I know Little Ghosts is a tiny, new press, but it's just something that was enough of a recurring issues throughout Your Flight Has Been Cancelled that I really started to notice it.

I loved the queer rep throughout this book, and I also really enjoyed the change in styles between stories! Stories like "Looks Like We're Heading to Gate C23" and "Whispers of Coldness and Flesh" played with formatting, which is something that I think more authors should play around with in anthologies!

All in all, this wasn't the best anthology I've ever read, I wanted a lot more diversity in the plots of the stories, and some of the writing and editing was just not good, but there are really some great authors in here whose work I'm definitely going to check out!

I enjoyed this collection. Some of the stories left me feeling like "What on earth did I just read...?" While trying to make sense of nonsense and come up with answers to any questions I had. I think that was unfortunetly the point to some of the short stories included in this novel. Those stories just didn't sit well with me, I guess I'm just too curious of a gal to read stuff like that haha. Some of them were just kinda poorly done in my opinion but once again it's likely just not my cup of tea!

The stories I did really enjoy and could truly understand/was actually spooked by were:

- Remember Me Better than I was
- An incident in concourse C
- Gate 67-C Montreal YUL to London LHR
- S U C K
- No Devil Lived On
- The Terminal
- For Your Safety and Comfort
- Ready to Board Now

Absolutely loved these short stories. This is exactly my kind of horror. I’m travelling for work in a few days and reading this actually made me more excited. I love flying and can’t wait to think of all these stories on all my future trips. Loved this anthology.
