Junie B. Jones's First Boxed Set Ever!

Rate this book
The Barnes & Noble Review
Soak up some sassy and fresh stories in this fabulous box set from everybody's favorite kindergartner, Junie B. Jones. This four-book collection chronicles the first four adventures in the highly popular series from award-winning writer Barbara Park. Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus, Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business, Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth, and Junie B. Jones and Some Sneaky Peeky Spying are featured in all their hilarious glory.

Junie B. is a feisty firecracker with her own sense of style, strong opinions, and a serious loathing for the stinky yellow school bus. Junie B. exhibits the many traits of a headstrong youngster, from her persistence to her amusing defiance. And just try and keep up with her raidly developing philosophy. Volumes can be written about this girlie's worldview, from cribs ("A crib is a bed with bars on the side of it. It's kind of like a cage at the zoo. Except with a crib, you can put your hand through the bars. And the baby won't pull you in and kill you") to water fountains ("No putting your mouth on the water spout. Or else germs will get inside you. And you will die"). Full of surprises and endowed with an extra-large sense of humor, Junie B. Jones is decidedly the funniest kindergartner in the world. (Amy Barkat)

I really liked these books when I was a kid. I had almost every single one. I thought they were funny. They were still kinda funny but now that I’m an adult I kinda just see junie b as a bratty kid lol I’d kill her if she was mine.

Listened to these (books 1-4) with my kids and they loved Junie. As a parent, I wasn’t thrilled at her behavior, but took the opportunity to have a lot of good discussions about good and bad behavior throughout the book. My kids laughed throughout and thought Junie was very funny. Because my kids loved them so much, I’d recommend, with the caveat that as a parent you gotta take the time to point out the good and bad choices and behaviors.

We have these books and have also listened to the audiobooks read by Lana Quintal (who does a fantastic job reading them). We enjoy all the books and continue to collect them. I know there is a lot of controversy over Junie B.'s sassy crazy, sometimes overly naughty behavior, but to be blatantly honest, I can remember being that age and thinking very similar things. I may or may not have acted on as many of those crazy impulses, but I can remember thinking them. As other people have written in reviews, these are also great learning times to talk about how her behavior was crazy and the consequences and why we shouldn't act certain ways. But really, they are just fun to read and listen to and enjoy some lighthearted humor.

Juvenile fiction. There were spots of humor in these four books, but I personally could not get past Junie B., a five year old, and her bratty behavior. It appears that the adults let her run loose. Therefore, I could never recommend that a young child read or listen to this series. Sorry.

“Girls can be anything boys can be! Right, Mrs? Because I saw that on Sesame Street. And on Oprah too.”

Junie B’s parents are not very gentle but to be fair she’s kind of a pain in the ass.

These books are so freakin funny though. It’s even better reading them as an adult and seeing how similar she is to some of the kids around her age that I know. Lots of nostalgia reading these, and I remember why I loved them so much as a kid! I hope my kids will want to read them too, but I also hope they don’t act like her.

Even as an adult, I still find myself laughing out loud at Junie B.'s antics. It's fun to revisit what it was like to think like a kindergartener and not understand the world of adults and rules. Junie B. is an endearing character who gets into trouble often and unintentionally annoys her family, teachers, and classmates. Barbara Park does an excellent job writing from her perspective, a kindergartener who uses kindergartener logic to process the outside world. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys comedy, even if you hadn't read it as a kid.

I read these books out loud to my 6 year old and he loved them. Honestly, my 9 year old listens in, too, and they both think they are hilarious. The stories are silly and fun. My only qualm is that Junie is frequently calling people dumb, stupid, and/or threatening to to knock their lights out and we already have these issues with our 6 year old... but it also gives us a good opportunity to talk about better behavior without making it personal to him.

Classic book that takes you back to your childhood

As an adult it's super easy to read of course. I picked this up one day when I heard they would be making the babysitters club into a show and was feeling a bit nostalgic so I decided to pick up my fav book from way back when. Children will love these books for years to come. And if you're feeling nostalgic this will really tickle your fancy.

loved it when I was a kid and now reading it with my daughter

These were my favorite first chapter books when I was a child. It was fun to read them again with my daughter who is entering kindergarten. There was lots of good talking points and my daughter loved telling me what she would’ve done. It was also good to help her get an idea of what kindergarten might be like and how she wants to behave.

While my 3 year old son liked it just fine, I found Junie B to not be a good person, she is constantly judging people calling them dumb and stupid and saying she hates things. I also can’t stand that she uses the wrong words all the time like funner and runned. I suppose it is to make her sound more childish, but even my three year old corrects her and I feel it sets a bad example.

Austen just read these and is having me read book #6 to her, and I needed a break from the heaviness of reading about the Holocaust, so I read these partially to myself and partially to Nick. These were my favorite books growing up and probably explain a lot about how I turned out, but Nick says she’s a bad influence even though she’s hilarious.. :/

I read these chapter books out loud to my kindergartener who LOVED them. The voice is silly and sassy and my daughter laughed at all the consequences of Junie B.s behavior. I think she’s ready to move on to some younger middle grade novels, but these were some of her favorite chapter books.

Me and my daughter read this once a week for a while. She was 6 at the time. We loved this. It was just as good as I remember when I was her age. This is a great series for any kid who is going through a transition.

I loved these books as a kid and started reading this one as a bedtime story with my preschooler. I did a lot of censoring/changing lines because Junie B is a jerk and the language is not particularly what I want my preschooler replicating. We won’t be reading any more of the series for now
