Sent back 40,000 years to the ends of the last great Ice Age, the time travelers embark on a journey of survival and discovery. The brutal and cannibalistic Cro-Magnons discover the small band and attack. Forced to flee from their high mountain encampment, the tribe heads into the dawn, towards the Pacific Ocean and their dream of ultimately reaching North America. Geena and Micah are left behind to lead the Cros away from the escaping tribe. When he is killed, she finds herself terribly alone. Severely injured and without hope or resources, she nonetheless is determined to survive and find the people. Survival of the fittest - that is the law of primordial earth.
I write stories with alpha males and strong, determined women.
I am a dreamer, an avid reader of fiction, a sometimes gardener and an inept crafter. I live in Idaho. I have three sons, a daughter-in-law, a granddaughter, little grandson and a new great-granddaughter. Over the years, I taught dance but as time passed, I decided to try my hand at a new endeavor - writing. I enjoy life and all its promises.
I picked this up when it was free, forgetting that I didn't really like the first book. But I'm glad I did, as this story held my attention throughout. However, it is just one long battle scene, with a side-story and some soft romance elements. The characters are much stronger than in the first book; their skill, strength, and smarts are all on display.
However, there is no plot to advance, and it looks like the 3rd book is more of the same, so I'll probably pass. Unless it pops up as a freebie.
A one-way time-travel trip traps a team of scientists, adventurers, botanists, healers and more in a pre-historic world of glorious beauty and terrifying danger. Their plan is to form a tribe, and survive. But will modern women really want to settle down and bear babies, and will modern men allow them their freedom in a world where might is right?
Geena is a strong female lead in this adventure, isolated and injured, struggling to catch up with the group. Meanwhile Seth battles his emotions, memories and the environment as he tries to find her. So many things could be taken for granted in the modern world, but now bears, dire wolves, and even Cro-Magnons eat people for breakfast while vultures scavenge the bones.
Of course, love is one of the things too easily taken for granted, and words unspoken draw Seth and Geena together just as old silences keep them apart. “Seth’s a warrior and Geena’s a survivor,” says Nathan as the party travels on without them. But this world contains more warriors and more survivors than any expect. The author creates scenery, battle scenes and peoples with confident prose and fast modern dialog, making this novel a quick, fascinating, and exciting romantic read.
Disclosure: The publisher gave me a free ecopy and I’m offering my honest review
I read Riley's Journey and really enjoyed the book. So I was pleased to find out what happened to the rest of the characters. And Ms. Parker does that in Into The Savage Dawn. However both books, while connected are great as stand alone reads.
Into The Savage Dawn is a rollercoaster ride without brakes, pausing at just the right moment to let you breathe before off you go again. The relationships and romance is very well done. Ms. Parker takes us back into the past and gives us a taste of how hard it was to survive. The all out war Geena and Seth had with a bear will keep you reading.
Sequel to Riley's Journey. The 21st century time travelers battle prehistoric men and beasts across the Asian landmass. Plenty of action whether its 'no-quarter' hand-to-hand combat or r-rated sexual encounters (it is a romance novel after all). The terror of the prehistoric world is more real in Savage Dawn.
I'm not really sure what category to put this series in, because it is truly unique. Modern day humans time travel back 40,000 years and must fight to survive as they're threatened by the cannibalistic Cro Magnon, cave bears, and saber toothed cats. I'm in awe of the author's world-building. Great story telling, too! If you liked Clan of the Cave Bear, you'll love this story. It's magnificent.
Another fantastic read from this author! I had trouble putting the book down and read far into the night to finish it, and then was sorry when it was done.
This story followed Riley’s Journey where a group from the present went so far back in time that the ferocious and ugly Cro-Magnon’s were their biggest enemies. Even tho this story centered mostly on Geena and Seth and their fight to stay alive—killing a massive hungry bear, running from an enemy with her wounded, and him carrying her every step of the way—it also focused on the main threat to the group as a whole. They needed every warrior to keep the band from being killed. Geena and Seth knew it was imperative for them to catch up after being parted. This alone drove them on, pushing them past unbelievable setbacks.
The authors did weave a lot about the other characters in this wonderfully entertaining story, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it means there’ll be another book. Maybe others in the group with their own love stories and more adventures. Yes! Please!!
Loved the second in the series of Riley's journey. I sincerely hope the Author will write a third installment. I am very curious as to how the two people's will continue to merge in terms of culture and language.
The quest to escape from the cannibal Cro-Magnons continues, as various members get separated and reunite, while their enemies pursue them. One continuity error, as Riley fights with a weapon she gave away a few chapters earlier. Above average editing, though having all the hyphens replaced with dashes was sometimes awkward.
Using ships was well understood among most of coastal populations. Aborigines sailed to Australia because there were no land bridges for them to use, and that was 20,000 years before this story takes place, their revised arrival being 60,000 years before the present.
I love this series of books. It is a great story. What I don't like is pages of the characters giving each other the poop. I mean, really? I swear a good third of this book is exactly that. Also, the women and men were picked for their skills, but the men still treat them like 2nd class citizens. I love the story, but I really hope the books are better written.
Book # 2 is awesome! First book laid the base of the story. This book took a jog and turned into an Olympic win. Great storyline. The development of the characters is perfect. I inhaled this book. Ok...#3, I'm running into it!! Amazing author. Read this series... and yes tears from this book!
We learn about the other characters and what happens when Riley and Nathan left. I liked Jonas and his take charge attitude. Though sometimes Jonas missed me off with his attitude. Overall this added to the story.
What a great middle book in this series! The group is coming together, becoming stronger in their goal to find a place of their own! Fascinating story!
I didn’t think the story could get any better but it did. The story follows a year or so from the first book. The characters from book one are still present. Great continuation of this fantastic read.
